Visit The Land Of Romeo And Juliet With A Vacation To Verona Italy
“Romeo, Romeo! Where for art thou, Romeo?” These famous words are from Juliet to her beloved Romeo as penned by the infamous William Shakespeare. You have to have been living under a rock if you are not familiar with the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. This story takes place in the quiet little village of Verona, Italy. Though William Shakespeare’s story is completely fiction (or so they say), this Italian city attracts hoards of visitors every year for the chance to stand on the infamous balcony where Juliet shouted those most famous words. William Shakespeare aside, a Verona Italy vacation is not just about this love story. There is so much more to this marvelous city and a famous novel is just the tip of the iceberg.
Verona was once considered one of the most powerful cities in the world in the time of Roman rule. While cities such as Rome have bore the brunt of time, with its architecture falling apart before our very eyes, Verona has stayed pristine and almost entirely intact and to be able to witness this beautiful city as it once stood, as it still stands today is truly a sight to behold. Close to popular tourist cities such as Milan and Venice, Verona is often the forgotten about city, which is why you should make it a point to visit. This city is not nearly as crowded as the large tourist hubs and you can truly take the time to appreciate all that Verona has to offer.
The Arena di Verona still stands today as it did when it was built in the year 30 AD. True, there is a bit of wear and tear, but considering the building is almost 2000, it is mostly all still intact and should not be missed by anyone. If you are lucky enough to be visiting Verona in the summer, you may be able to catch an operatic performance inside the Arena di Verona. Summertime in Verona also hosts the Shakespeare Festival. Gawkers will make their trek to the balcony of the supposed home of Juliet (don’t fall for this) where the story takes place. The home of Romeo has been converted to a restaurant and by all accounts, should be visited, not only for the tasty food, but for the history. A Verona Italy vacation should not be passed up. From the incredibly preserved architecture to the truly heartbreaking love story, Verona is worth your visit.
