Being A Tourist In Stresa Italy Means Immersing Yourself In The Culture
Lake Maggiore is one of the most beautiful landmarks in all of Italy and to miss it would simply be a shame. One of the most famous areas of Lake Maggiore is Stresa. This quaint, picturesque little waterside village is reminiscent of many small Bavarian villages, which should come as no surprise considering the fact that Stresa is just a stone’s through from Switzerland. Visiting as a Stresa tourist is something you should absolutely do. Immersing yourself in this quiet, sleepy little town will truly give you a taste of what it must be like to live in a little town such as this.
One of the best ways to experience Stresa is to look at it from a birds eye view. This can be done while riding in a Mottorone cable car high above the region. You will take a 20 minute cable car ride to breathtaking Mt. Mottorone where you can visit the beautiful Alpine gardens. If you dare to hike the rest of the way up to the summit, you will be able to view all of the 7 lakes of Italy as well as a glorious view of the Alps. Truly a sight to behold! If heights are not your thing and you would rather keep your feet firmly planted on the ground, there are many attractions you can visit on land. If you are traveling with children, the Transport Museum is always a big hit. This building bears witness to all different types of modes of transportation from horse drawn carriages to a real underground station. You can also visit the Umbrella museum (especially on a rainy day...no pun intended!). Here you will find the history of umbrellas from the most ornate of Victorian parasols to dapper tortoise handled umbrellas. You will receive a history lesson on these umbrellas and the family who made most of them.
If you are a Stresa tourist and are ready to experience the charm of this precious little village, the best way to do this is to visit one of the many local markets in town. Open every Friday from June through August, you will be able to find a bevy of local items as well as produce and meats in any one of these markets. Leather goods made by local artists are sold (and can usually be bartered for a decent price) as well as shoes and clothing, many of them made by the local vendors. If you are interested in having a lakeside picnic, this market is the perfect place to pick up fresh fruit, cheese and baked bread to give you a hearty and authentic Stresa lunch!
